> UNESCO-UNEVOC Meeting in association with UNESCO BANGKOK Experts Meeting on TVET in South Asia and South East Asia Bangkok, 22-24 May 2002
>
> Organizers: UNESCO-UNEVOC Central, Bonn
> UNESCO Bangkok, TVE Section
> Countries in the South Asian and South East Asian regions are facing a number of similar challenges in the field of technical and vocational education and training. Their approach for finding the most suitable solutions is mostly done, though, independently from each other. It is recognized that the current North-South links in the field of TVET do benefit these countries, albeit often on an individual basis.
>
> Its is felt that the said countries could benefit from a well developed contact and increase cooperation among themselves through a strong South-South dialogue; it is expected that identifying and recognizing common challenges as well as finding appropriate solutions-by working together-will be to the advantage of the countries of the said regions.
>
> The UNEVOC Centre seeks to play -together with UNESCO> '> s regional office in Bangkok- an active part during the preparation and implementation of this planning meeting and subsequent workshop(s). It also wishes to take the lead in inviting suitable donor agencies for financing the projects, as identified during these events, and in follow-up activities.
>
> Objectives of the meeting
> The participants will be expected to identify a number of common challenges, as currently faced in these regions. The discussions could explore and touch upon- but will not be necessarily limited to-challenges and issues like:
> * Providing equal as well as life long access to TVET with a special focus on girls/women and disadvantaged groups;
>
> * Preparing and providing curricula and instructional materials, which content should be in accordance with the requirements of the private sector as well as the individual learner; special attention could in this respect be given to entrepreneurial skills;
>
> * Integrating pre-vocational skills into general education curricula;
>
> * Upgrading the knowledge and skills of the teaching and instructional staff on a regular basis.
