> NIUE TAKES INTERNET TRAINING TO THE WORLD ALOFI, Niue (Nov. 3, 2002 - Niue Economic Review/PINA Nius Online)---The Internet Users Society - Niue is producing a series of public service technical education videos for computer and Internet users in developing countries. The videos will be available worldwide at no cost for non-commercial use. Internet Users Society - Niue is a charitable foundation set up in 1997 and provides free Internet services to all residents of Niue (population 1,600). It is producing the videos initially to be aired on TV Niue. "Most computer-users in island nations like Niue learn how to use computers or the Internet by trial and error," said Richard St. Clair, co-founder of the society and technical manager. "The problem with that approach is, if something breaks, it's likely the user will have no way to fix it, be it a software problem or a hardware problem. "Even worse, if it's something like a virus or a worm, it could break the Internet for the whole country. So we figured we'd
try and stop a lot of these problems from occurring in advance, by making sure we have educated users." Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) Website: <http://www.pinanius.org> SOURCE: Pacific Islands Report
